Team Fraser was started in 2005 when 18yr old Scott decided he wanted to give motor sport a go, he chose to enter the Scottish XR2 Championship (one of the most competitive championships in the country), as he was learning his race craft he was finishing in the middle of the field, this soon changed after a 3rd place at Cadwell Park in Lincolnshire, Scott was gaining in confidence, another 3rd place at Oulton Park was followed up by a Season best 2nd at Mallory, unfortunately Scott didn’t quite manage a podium finish at his home track Knockhill, but that was shortly to change, by the end of the season Scott finished 5th overall an excellent result for his first season racing.

2006 was to see Dad Alastair enter the championship with Scott, having seen how much fun Scott was having, he took the plunge, bought an XR2 and now there were two Fraser’s racing in the Scottish XR2 Championship. Alastair a former Strathclyde Police traffic cop, had only ever competed in motor sport as a co-driver/navigator in the Scottish Rally Championship in the early 1980’s and had never competed in circuit racing before. Alastair started well with a commendable 5th in his first race and an extremely good podium 3rd in his second, unfortunately those finishes were not emulated, however Alastair was never out of the top ten and ended the season an excellent 6th overall and second in the newcomers trophy.

Midway through the 2006 season was to see the final member of the team arrive, Iain, 22, a technician with Glasgow Audi, seeing what fun his dad and brother were having decided to hang up his motocross boots and helmet and join the rest of the family in their assault on the XR2 championship. Straight away he made an impact, being named driver of the day in his first race, In the six races Iain competed in he gained two 3rd places and a 2nd, finishing 13th overall, a superb beginning to his career.

Season 2006 was to be Scott’s though, winning six of the twelve races and four other podium finishes was enough to see Scott crowned overall Scottish XR2 Champion and also pip Dad Alastair to the newcomers crown.

Team Fraser all work at Knockhill Racing Circuit in Fife, Alastair as Manager of the Circuit’s Skid and Driver Excellence Centre, with Iain and Scott as Instructors on the Circuits Race/Rally Car Experiences.

The 2007 Season is looking interesting with the prospect of even larger Grids and television coverage. Alastair, Iain and Scott will all be trying to improve on last year’s results, a tough task in this highly competitive Championship, but who knows a Team Fraser 1,2,3,on the podium would be something to talk about.
